So I finally gave in and joined Facebook.
I’ve been kind of against Facebook for several reasons. First, because everybody is doing it—and that irritates me. Second, because I know of several people who’ve gotten into a lot of trouble on Facebook (connecting/reconnecting with old flames, etc.). Third, because people add people to their contact list just to show off the size of their contact list—and that also irritates me. Fourth, because I don’t really like connecting with old friends (okay, maybe i’m just being irritable today—I only slept 3-5 hours last night).
So why did I finally cave in? Because I lead a new church that is trying to build community with a lot of new people. And given that we don’t have a signficant networking history (being a new church), we’re having a bit of a hard time connecting people. So we decided to use Facebook as a networking resource.
However, I now have to confess that I’m having a blast with Facebook. Connecting with old friends isn’t as irritating as I once thought. And being able to connect with folks from church throughout the week turns out to be very beneficial. So, to all the Facebook users out there: Cheers!
